I knew that if I wanted to stay here, I’d have to create the opportunity.
Mike’s parents enrolled him in art classes at a very young age after he drew them an uncannily accurate rendering of a space shuttle launch that he’d seen on TV, drawn in crayon. By the tenth grade, he was a working artist singularly devoted to improving his craft.
Mike studied fine art at Edinboro University, refining his skills in a variety of media, from oil painting to illustration to 3D modeling. When he graduated and moved back to Lewiston, he had a choice: stay put or trek out to Los Angeles to find work as an animator.
Fate intervened in the form of a local developer, who put Mike on retainer to produce architectural renderings and paintings for his hotels. On the side, Mike expanded his freelance business, breaking into the world of website design.
Through a mutual employer, Mike met Tim and the two teamed up. Mike could apply his fine art background to digital design and Tim’s coding acumen could make Mike’s designs a reality.
It wasn’t long after that the pair saw that there wasn’t much room for growth if they continued to approach the market as two talented kids. On the other hand, they realized that no existing agency would allow them to practice their creativity without restraint the same way that freelancing would. They decided to make a go of it on their own and start their own business. Luminus was born.
In the years that followed, Mike’s drive for artistic excellence led to many long hours and late nights of obsessively perfecting the work that bore his company’s name. It also led Luminus to grow from a two-man shop to the area’s most ambitious creative agency.
As Chief Creative Officer, Mike oversees every project that Luminus takes on, ensuring that it lives up to the high standards through strategy and processes that he worked to define.
